Forestry and carbon projects: Formosa experience

Posted on 28 May at 19:08

On Tuesday, May 19, ProSustentia participated in a talk with Aike NBS and Fundación Aike for students and teachers of Forestry Engineering at the National University of Formosa, within the framework of the Forestry Management course.

The activity focused on carbon markets and forest restoration in Formosa, with special interest in afforestation, assisted natural regeneration and nature-based solutions. As a case study, the Altos del Guayacán project was presented, developed by Aike NBS -ProjectID 5403-, currently undergoing validation under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS). The event exceeded initial expectations and brought together almost 60 participants, including students, teachers and professionals linked to the forestry sector.

During the presentation, ProSustentia addressed concepts related to climate change, mitigation strategies, voluntary carbon markets and the certification process under international standards such as VCS and Climate, Community and Biodiversity (CCB). We also share our technical experience in the development and accompaniment of forestry and conservation projects, including methodological aspects and fundamental concepts for certification, such as additionality, baseline and quantification of emission reductions and removals.

The exchange following the presentations was particularly enriching and allowed for in-depth technical consultations on certification, additionality, biodiversity and project implementation.

Aike NBS and Fundación Aike presented the progress and challenges of the Altos del Guayacán project, sharing experiences related to restoration, forest planning, biodiversity conservation and community development.

These spaces for coordination between academia, organizations and the private sector are essential to strengthen technical capacities and promote concrete initiatives to address climate change.

ProSustentia continues to work in the design and support of carbon projects and nature-based solutions, providing technical expertise for initiatives with positive climate, environmental and social impact.

We welcome these opportunities for exchange, which bring technical tools on carbon markets to future professionals and strengthen the development of climate projects with environmental and social integrity.
