New verification phase for a forest carbon project in Corrientes

Posted on Yesterday at 09:21

During the first week of June, the second verification audit of the forestry project was conducted at the Puerto Valle and Garruchos sites, carried out jointly by the technical teams from Cambium, Pomera, Intertek, and ProSustentia.

The project, registered in VERRA’s VCS program under ID 4763, is being carried out in the province of Corrientes and consists of the non-commercial afforestation of areas previously used for extensive cattle ranching, using a combination of native species and other fast-growing species with no planned harvest. The initiative covers 973 hectares and aims to generate long-term carbon removals, as well as promote benefits for biodiversity, local communities, and the protection of water resources.

The verification audit is a fundamental step in the certification cycle, as it allows for the assessment of compliance with the VCS standard’s requirements and confirms the carbon removals actually achieved during the audited period. This phase included a review of the forest inventory for the new verification period (2023–2026), interviews with stakeholders, and field activities aimed at validating the reported information and verifying the proper implementation of on-the-ground activities.

At ProSustentia, we are supporting the development of the monitoring report and the audit process alongside the project developers and other involved entities, contributing our expertise in certifying carbon projects under international standards.

This project represents a major carbon removal initiative through reforestation in Argentina, with a 40-year crediting period and a projected total of more than 1.1 million metric tons of CO₂ removed over its lifetime.

We thank the teams at Cambium, Pomera, and Intertek for the professionalism they demonstrated during this latest verification process, and we celebrate this step, which helps strengthen the generation of high-integrity carbon credits and the development of nature-based climate solutions in Argentina.
