On June 4 and 5, 2023, the Argentina Carbon Forum 2024 was held at the Buenos Aires Chamber of Commerce. It was organized by MexiCO2 and Genesis with the aim of bringing together all stakeholders in the carbon market and promoting climate action in the country.
Around 400 people attended the event in person. Among the speakers were national and provincial government authorities, representatives from the international public and private sectors, representatives of certification standards such as Verra, Climate Action Reserve, and BioCarbon Registry, associations like IETA, and companies and organizations from the forestry, agriculture, and energy sectors, among others.
ProSustentia participated as a speaker in the discussion panel: “The Development of Carbon Projects in Latin America.” Our director, Federico Moyano, spoke alongside representatives from Ecosecurities, Emisiones Neutras, and Enking International.
The National Forest Carbon Table (MCFN) organized a side event to present the private sector’s perspective on agroforestry projects. There was a massive attendance and interest in the event. ProSustentia was also present, engaging with key stakeholders. National government authorities emphasized the importance of advancing specific regulations and an Emissions Trading System for Argentina. In particular, Ana Vidal de Lamas, the National Representative of Environment, commented:
“We want to make a diagnosis of voluntary carbon markets to understand Argentina’s role in supply and demand. Working groups will be formed from the national climate change directorate and the national climate change cabinet to generate this missing information.”
There is still much to be done at the national level, but this event allows us to see year by year how we are progressing in finding solutions. We are proud to be a part of it. We are proud to be part of it.
