On October 25th, together with Cambium and Pomera Maderas, we held a public hearing in Santo Tomé, Corrientes, on the project “Mixed Reforestation in the Paraná Basin – III” (Verra ID 5202). This project is promoted by Cambium, with the objective of sequestering CO2 through plantations of eucalyptus, pine and 22 native species on the land of Pomera Maderas, with the technical support of ProSustentia for carbon certification under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) program.

The event, held at the Universidad Nacional del Nordeste and broadcast on Pomera Maderas’ YouTube channel, was attended by 100 virtual participants and 12 on-site participants. Juan Murillo (Director of Carbon Credit Origination at Cambium), Pablo Aquino (Carbon Project Manager at Pomera) and Camila Rastelli (Technical Specialist in Carbon Certification at ProSustentia), with the support of Bibiana Duarte (Carbon Credit Origination Manager at Cambium) and Gabriela del Ristoro (Head of Communication and Public Participation at Pomera).
Public consultation is a requirement of the VCS certification process to inform stakeholders about project activities, potential risks and mitigation measures. It also presents the certification process, how the carbon market works, and the project’s goals for CO2 capture and offsetting.
The event resulted in a valuable exchange where participants shared suggestions and appreciated the objective of climate change mitigation, collaboration with local academic institutions and restoration of degraded lands. This meeting is an important step in the certification process. This meeting marks a key step in the certification process.
