At ProSustentia, we are proud to support the first certification of a Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) project in Argentina under the prestigious Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) standard.
This exciting afforestation and reforestation project, named Unitán, has become Argentina’s first Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) project to validate and verify its compliance with the Verified Carbon Standard. The project covers an area of 2,350 hectares in the provinces of Chaco and Formosa, in the northeastern region of the country. During its implementation, the growth of Quebracho Colorado (Schinopsis Balansae) and Eucalyptus sp. will be carried out with the aim of reducing pressure on the native forests of the region, which are currently used for tannin and energy purposes.
The project, which began activities in 2016, becomes the first NBS project to certify under Verra VCS standard in Argentina, with ProSustentia as an advisor throughout the certification process.
