In December, from ProSustentia we accompanied AF (Agroempresa Forestal) in Uruguay in a project aimed at strengthening carbon footprint management throughout its value chain. In this context, our carbon footprint lead, Milagros Munuce, traveled to the country to work with the company in training its contractors, focusing on the main concepts and tools necessary to start measuring emissions.
Over the course of two working days, specific training was provided to contractors involved in silvicultural management, harvesting and timber transport services. The objective was to enable each stakeholder to begin its own carbon footprint measurement and management process, understanding its role within a broader decarbonization strategy.
During the meetings, the different stages of a decarbonization strategy were presented: from the measurement of the carbon footprint to the definition of mitigation objectives and the design of action plans for the reduction and compensation of emissions.
As part of the project, and with AF funding, we also developed a Scope 1 and 2 emissions calculator designed especially for contractors. This tool allows them to record and estimate their emissions in a simple and standardized way, facilitating data generation and continuous improvement.
For AF, the incorporation of suppliers and contractors in carbon footprint management represents a key step to improve the quality of the information available and move towards a more robust management of its environmental impact, actively integrating its value chain.
