Last month marked the completion of the validation process for the ARR project \u201cReforestation Project in Northern Argentina\u201d ( Project ID 5403<\/a>), a significant milestone for the development of forest carbon projects in Argentina under Verra\u2019s VCS standard<\/a>. This is the first project by Aike, the proposer, validated using the VM0047 methodology, which applies remote sensing approaches to baseline monitoring. The project is being carried out at the Altos del Guayac\u00e1n ranch, in the Pati\u00f1o department of Formosa province, on land that was previously cleared and used for extensive cattle ranching for more than ten years.<\/p>\n

The project has begun reforesting more than 2,000 hectares, with the possibility of further expanding the area. The design combines fast-growing introduced species\u2014eucalyptus\u2014with native species, particularly the white carob tree, with the aim of restoring biodiversity in strategic areas of the countryside. In addition, the project includes conservation and restoration areas to protect biodiversity and waterways, incorporating native forest corridors and fire management measures.<\/p>\n

The validation was conducted by ICONTEC<\/a>, and the project has already been submitted to the VERRA registry for final review.<\/p>\n

At ProSustentia,<\/a> we have supported the project from the outset, analyzing its feasibility, contributing our expertise in AFOLU project design, compiling the documentation and estimating GHG removals, and coordinating the audit process. ProSustentia also developed the remote sensing component for the dynamic baseline and additionality assessment.<\/p>\n
